What is FILTRATION?
Filtration definition: The process of separating a solid from a solution with a filter paper is known as filtration. Separation of the organic solid from the solution is carried out via a Büchner funnel and a filtration assembly. Cut out a Büchner funnel-sized filter paper and place it on a perforated disc. Then attach it to the mouth of the filtration flask connected to the suction pump.
Filtration diagram:
Sometimes it is necessary to filter the hot solution. This can be done with a hot water funnel. Includes a funnel with a metal jacket filled with hot water. A regular funnel-shaped filter with a filter paper is placed on the metal jacket. However, filtration is slower than in the Buchner funnel.
Filtration from ordinary funnels can be greatly enhanced by using fluted filter paper. It is made by folding ordinary filter paper to obtain a fan-like arrangement with alternating height and depression.
What are the uses of filtration?
Filtration is extremely important to keep things like water, chemicals, and medicines clean, pure, and free of contaminants.
- WATER FILTRATION: It filters harmful chemicals from water and improves the taste of your drinking water.
- BLOOD FILTRATION: The heart filters deoxygenated blood and the Kidney separates waste products from the blood by filtration.
- MEMBRANE FILTRATION: In biology laboratories, membrane Filtration is widely used to sterilize liquids.
- ORE REFINING: In metallurgy, refining and filtration consist of purifying an impure metal.
